Dubai hotel room rates reach six-year high

The prices were bolstered by the holiday season, with ADR topping US$500 on New Year’s Eve

December saw Dubai’s hotel room rates climb to the highest level in six years on the back of the influx of Expo 2020 visitors and the holiday season, in particular New Year’s Eve, when Dubai’s hotels put on spectacular entertainment across the region.

According to hotel management analytics firm STR, hotels in the emirate recorded an average daily rate (ADR) of AED956 (US$260) for the month of December 2021, the highest since January 2015. New Year’s Eve saw the highest surge with the ADR reaching as much AED1,964 (US$535) while the revenue per available room (RevPAR) stood at AED743.89 (US$202), the highest since December 31, 2015.

Overall, Dubai’s RevPAR for the month also climbed to its highest level since March 2015 at AED747 (US$203).

The increased visitor traffic into the emirate has been largely attributed to Expo 2020 Dubai, which launched in October 2021. Dubai International (DXB) received more than 24 million international passengers during the first 11 months last year, with November recording nearly 4 million arrivals.
