Emirates unveils its latest Expo 2020 Dubai livery

The airline has made a drastic departure from its traditional white and gold colour scheme

Emirates has revealed an A380 livery dedicated to the forthcoming Expo 2020 Dubai – and it will be hard to miss this flying advert. The official airline of the Expo 2020 Dubai has swapped its traditional white and gold colour scheme for a bright blue, nose-to-tail livery featuring large-scale graphics in green, orange, pink, purple and red.

The rainbow livery covers the fuselage up to the fin and is interlaced with the ring-shaped Expo 2020 Dubai logo. The design was created and installed in-house and is the largest livery project the airline has ever carried out.

The actual process of painting the livery design and applying the decals took a total of 16 days and 4,379 hours to complete

The new design also features messages, such as ‘Be part of the magic’, and the stuntwoman who appeared atop the Burj Khalifa in the recent Emirates advert is also featured on the fuselage carrying a message board that reads ‘See you there’.

The existing paint was completely stripped and eleven colours were applied using a “wild spray method” via electrostatic spray guns and conventional cup guns. The stencils and tracing guides were produced in-house by the airline’s UV printer and graphics workshop.

Aimed at increasing the event’s visibility, the new livery will appear on three A380 aircraft and fly to the carrier’s global network over the next six months, joining the 40 other special liveries dedicated to the Expo, which have collectively flown to more than 130 destinations across the airline’s network since 2018.

Expo 2020 Dubai will run from October 2021 to March 2022, and Emirates will welcome visitors to its pavilion dedicated to the future of commercial aviation.
