Etihad to launch Abu Dhabi-Guangzhou flights

The new service comes as China is rumoured to be reopening its borders from 2023

The UAE’s national carrier, Etihad Airways, will launch twice-weekly flights to the Chinese city of Guangzhou from 10 October 2022.

This is Etihad Airways' third Chinese route to its network after Beijing, which resumed in June 2022, and Shanghai, which resumed in July 2020. Currently travel to and from China is only allowed for essential business.

The twice-weekly passenger service to Guangzhou will initially be operated on the carrier’s two-class Boeing 777.

Commenting on the news, Etihad senior vice president of global sales and cargo, Martin Drew said: “We are proud to offer our guests a third destination in China as Etihad Airways begins flights to the pivotal and historic port city of Guangzhou.

"As well as being a modern and rapidly growing city itself, Guangzhou has excellent connections with the Greater Bay Area.

“Our twice-weekly service will further address the huge demand for passenger travel between the UAE and China, as well as provide new cargo capacity, building on the formidable people and business ties between the two markets.”

The carrier is also set to increase flights to New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) this winter, adding four weekly flights to its Abu Dhabi-New York route from 15 November 2022, giving customers the choice of 11 weekly non-stop services between the cities.
