Frankfurt Airport introduces retail experience for upcoming Terminal 3

Space includes central marketplace with 64 outlets and two food courts

Frankfurt Airport has revealed a bold retail vision for its soon-to-open Terminal 3, introducing a marketplace-focused shopping experience that claims to “set new standards for airport retail in Europe”.

The 64-outlet retail concept is a key element of Frankfurt’s €4 billion Terminal 3 project, with the first phase expected to boost the airport’s capacity by 19 million passengers annually when it opens ahead of summer 2026.

Spanning 12,000 square meters, the retail space will be distinguished by a central marketplace concept, and feature 64 retail and service units, including 15 flagship stores, a bar and two food courts with seating for nearly 1,000 guests beneath an architecturally striking ceiling design.

What sets the experience apart is its blend of international and local brands, which have been “carefully curated” to appeal to the diverse traveller base that passes through Frankfurt.

Highlights include dedicated German-themed shops, a broad mix of fashion, lifestyle and convenience stores and an array of F&B outlets operated by renowned concessionaires, from snacks to fine dining overlooking the airfield.

Services will also include financial and tax refund facilities, enhancing convenience for global travellers.

The new Terminal 3 building will consist of seven levels, with 99 elevators and 89 escalators and will include a Sky Line people mover system connecting passengers to the airport's existing terminals in just eight minutes.

When Terminal 3 and three piers open (expected by 2026), the airport’s total annual passenger capacity is expected to slightly exceed 70 million, if demand continues to recover.

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) handled approximately 61.6 million passengers in 2024, up from 2023 but still below pre-pandemic levels. It is the busiest airport by passenger traffic in Germany and 6th busiest in Europe.
