Japanese restaurant Zuma to debut in The Maldives

The restaurant will be the first floating Zuma in the world

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi has announced that renowned Japanese restaurant Zuma will join the resort’s collection of 10 culinary experiences in the first half of 2022.

Founded in London in 2002 by creator and co-founder Rainer Becker, Zuma is currently present in 17 locations worldwide. The concept is a contemporary, high-end take on the traditional Japanese izakaya, which features sharing plates in a casual atmosphere.

Zuma’s signature sashimi selection

Inspired by its location, Zuma Maldives will combine elements of timber, light and granite creating an immersive optical illusion that leads guests into the vibrant restaurant space. The island bar, robata and sushi counter will take centre stage, providing a theatrical focal point for diners.

Zuma Maldives will serve its signatures made famous in its international outposts.

Dishes include thinly sliced sea bass with yuzu, truffle oil and salmon roe; roasted lobster with shiso ponzu butter, and spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chilli and sweet soy

Commenting on the opening, Zuma creator and co- founder Rainer Becker said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing Zuma’s international cuisine to the Maldives on the shores of such a breathtaking and iconic destination. We share Waldorf Astoria’s focus on exceptional attention to detail and look forward to delivering unmatched culinary experiences to guests with Zuma’s award-winning Japanese cuisine.”
