Lufthansa allows check-in with digital vaccine certificates

Travellers must present digital proof of vaccination on an app at check-in

Lufthansa has announced that passengers with a digital vaccination certificate can check in and receive their boarding passes more quickly. Vaccination certificates can also be checked at a Lufthansa Service Centre up to 72 hours before departure.

QR codes issued to fully vaccinated travellers can be scanned to provide access to the digital vaccination certificates. This eliminates the need to carry printed documents and makes it easier for staff to verify vaccination certificates, as the system compares the data from the QR code with the booking and passenger data.

In the near future, mobile check-in via smartphone will also make check-in faster and easier. On selected routes, it will  be possible to scan QR vaccination certificates with the Lufthansa app or to load them digitally into the app. The app recognises the QR code and uses this information to create a boarding pass.

However, for now, the airline recommends that its guests continue to carry the original printed certificates with them on the trip, in addition to the digital proof, until further notice.
