Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid awarded three Michelin Keys

Hotel is the first in Spanish capital to receive Michelin’s new highest accolade

Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid has been awarded three Michelin Keys. This makes it the only hotel in the Spanish capital to be awarded the highest possible accolade in Michelin’s new Key hotel accreditation scheme being rolled out this year.

Under the scheme, three Keys represents “an extraordinary stay” offering “the ultimate in comfort and service”. In a press release unveiling the awards in Spain, Michelin described the hotel as “a Belle Époque palace that remains a crucial pillar in the Spanish capital’s hospitality scene. Its architecture – both inside and out – is nothing short of monumental”.

The hotel reopened in 2021 following an extensive restoration of the 113-year-old property. Among its five restaurants, Deessa displays two Michelin stars. The signature restaurant is overseen by Spanish chef Quique Dacosta and serves two menus, Historical and Contemporary, in the hotel’s Alfonso XIII room.

Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid has 100 rooms and 53 suites. The restoration project included the opening of a wellness centre with an indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool, experience showers and treatment rooms.

The hotel is located in what is dubbed Madrid’s “Golden Triangle of Art”.

Of the 300 properties reviewed by Michelin in Spain, only 97 were awarded Keys. To be awarded Keys, hotels are rated according to a set of criteria which includes architecture, service quality, personality, value for money and overall guest experience.

The Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is one of five hotels across the country to receive three Keys. Two Keys were awarded to 12 hotels and 80 hotels received one Key.

Mandarin Oriental has 38 hotels, resorts and residences in 25 countries with two properties in Spain. Its hotel in Barcelona received two Keys – the only hotel to be awarded two Keys in the Catalan city.

Mandarin Oriental Barcelona has 120 rooms and suites. It has two restaurants, including Moments, which serves Catalan cuisine by Michelin-starred chef Carme Ruscalleda and her son Raül Balam.
