The hospitality group will open three hotels in Setouchi between 2027 and 2030

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced the development of three boutique properties in Japan, branded as Mandarin Oriental, Setouchi, strategically located around the Seto Inland Sea in the Setouchi Region.

The Setouchi Region comprises the coastal areas of seven prefectures that surround Seto, Japan's largest inland sea. Revered for its seascapes and age-old traditions, travel agents can learn more about the region here.

Set to launch between 2027 and 2030, the first of Mandarin Oriental's three new resorts is in Takamatsu, a port city on Shikoku Island, located adjacent to Takamatsu station, a a 30-minute drive from Takamatsu airport.

Mandarin Oriental, Setouchi at Takamatsu will open in 2027. This 92-room urban resort is situated on the harbour front of Takamatsu, the capital city of Kagawa prefecture known as the gateway to Setouchi.

Also opening in 2027, Mandarin Oriental, Setouchi at Naoshima will comprise 22 rooms set in a picturesque fishing village, on a site that has been the residence of the established Miyake clan for over 800 years. Ryokan-style guest suites and villas will be located in a new main building and also in three village houses.

The third property, which is set to open in 2030 on a separate island, will feature 50 guest rooms with fully immersive wellness experiences. Further details of this will be revealed in due course.

Mandarin Oriental, Setouchi will curate a cruise for guests to travel between the sites on board a private yacht. This first of its kind for Mandarin Oriental, it will immerse guests in the beautiful landscapes of each island.
