Qatar to welcome 105 new hotels ahead of FIFA 2022 World Cup

The new properties will broaden Qatar’s appeal to a range of travellers and enhance the visitor experience ahead of the highly anticipated tournament

As Qatar gears up to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the country is adding 105 hotels and serviced apartment properties to its already extensive portfolio of properties ahead of the football tournament.

The new openings will aim to broaden Qatar’s appeal to a range of travellers and enhance the visitor experience, as Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) continues its mission to develop the country into a world-leading destination.

Qatar, already home to 183 hotels, is set to increase the number of properties across the country by more than half by the end of next year. The World Cup kicks off on November 21, 2022.

Leading the way is the recently opened Banyan Tree Doha. The five-star hotel, conceived by renowned interior designer Jacques Garcia, comprises 341 rooms, suites and residences and boasts five dining destinations. The Banyan Tree Spa creates a “sanctuary for the senses” with its famed Rainforest Hydrotherapy treatment featuring a vitality pool, herbal sauna, steam room and signature rain walk.

More openings this year include the Pullman Doha West Bay, a five-star Accor property aimed at both business and leisure travellers, and the 53-storey JW Marriott West Bay, an architectural marvel with an eye-catching exterior and a terrace pool set 30 floors above the city.

This year will also see the launch of the strategically located Steigenberger Hotel Doha. Travellers looking for accommodation close to the airport will be able to stay in one of its 204 rooms and suites. The futuristic building will house a spa, gym and rooftop pool as well as various dining options, a 4,300-square-foot ballroom and six conference rooms.

Qatar Airways group chief executive and secretary general of QNTC, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are continuing to expand our tourism offer to ensure guests enjoy the best of Qatari hospitality while being able to choose a hotel, resort or serviced apartment that accommodates their budget and needs. These upcoming properties are part of our strategy to diversify our offering and broaden our appeal to visitors. We are pleased to expand our global tourism offer in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and provide travellers with more options to experience the very best of Qatar.”
