Qatar unveils accommodation portal for Fifa World Cup 2022

Host nation expands options to suit a range of budgets

Football fans travelling to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 can now visit the country’s newly created accommodation portal and choose from a range of options.

In order to fulfil the country’s promise of making the World Cup accessible and suitable for a different range of budgets, Qatar has recently created an online accommodation platform featuring about 80% of the country’s hotel inventory. Fans can choose from two to five-star hotel rooms, apartments and villas, luxury cruise ships and desert camps in fan villages via the portal.

MSC Cruises has leased two cruise ships – MSC Poesia and MSC World Europa – to Qatar for the tournament. The vessels will be moored in Doha Port and used as floating hotels, providing 4,000 cabins and offering guests a spectacular view of the West Bay cityscape. The Gulf state has also struck a deal to furnish 60,000 rooms and villas with Accor throughout the tournament.

Fan villages will be spread across three sites – Zafaran, Ras Bu Fontas and Rawdat Al Jahhaniya – offering a budget-friendly option to camp in the desert in modular cabins. The sites are accessible by public transport and located near cultural attractions, beaches and stadiums.

A modular cabin for two people costs $207 per night and each unit has two single beds or one double bed, a private bathroom, a refrigerator, Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception and a variety of dining options nearby.

FIFA organisers have also set a limit on room costs that hotels can charge fans. The price of a three-star hotel is capped at around $120 per night.

Last month, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) announced that fans will have the option to stay with friends or relatives during the global sporting event, which takes place in November and December. Only Qatari nationals and residents can host visitors and hosts can invite up to 10 people during the tournament as long as the host registers their visitors. Applications are set to open this month.

As one of the most geographically compact World Cups, fans will be able to stay in the same location throughout FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 , allowing them to save on the cost of accommodation.
