Saudi Arabia to host FIFA World Cup 2034

The second Middle East destination to host the tournament is expected to see an even bigger spike in tourism

Saudi Arabia is set to host the 2034 World Cup after Australia, the only other candidate, announced that it wasn’t going to take part in the bidding process.

FIFA had invited bids for the tournament from countries in Asia and Oceania by 31 October 2023 and the Gulf nation announced its bid on 4 October.

Saudi Arabia will become the second country in the Middle East to host a FIFA World Cup after Qatar successfully hosted the tournament in 2022.

Football Australia boss James Johnson confirmed that it would instead focus on bids for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup and the 2029 Club World Cup, after hosting a Women's World Cup this year.
