The Egypt Tourism Authority partnered with Wego to boost traveller numbers
MENA-based travel marketplace Wego has reported a 151% growth in the number of searches from the GCC to Egypt in the past seven months in comparison to the same period in 2021.
Wego says the growth in searches is the result of the Egypt Tourism Authority partnering with Wego to boost the number of travellers to the country. The campaign recorded more than 28 million searches between January and July 2022.
Among the top markets logging searches for Egypt were Kuwait, the UAE and Egypt itself, which saw the biggest spike with 44% increase, showing domestic markets are ket to recovery.
According to the data, the average trip duration was between three to seven days with people searching one to two months ahead of their trip.
Another trend is that solo travellers are dominating the travel searches to Egypt with 79% growth in comparison to the same period in 2021, followed by families and couples.
Searches for five-star hotel stays also saw a growth of 111% in comparison to the period last year.
Wego chief commercial officer and managing director, MENA and India Mamoun Hmedan said: "We are very happy to support the Egypt Tourism Authority in attracting more travellers to the country. Following our campaigns, we increased the number of searches from the GCC to Egypt to 151%. Egypt will remain a preferred destination and we expect to see more bookings to the country in the coming months."
