Can TV locations help you sell holidays?

Inntravel operator is banking on it, adding The White Lotus locations to tours

The Sicilian coastal town of Cefalù (pictured) – a backdrop for several scenes in the second series of the hugely popular TV drama The White Lotus – is featured on a new itinerary from Inntravel.

Called 'The Mountains of Sicily with Cefalù', the itinerary is in the operator’s newly released programme of 290 self-guided tours for spring and summer 2023.

Now in it's second season, The White Lotus is a drama exploring power structures, gender ideologies, social hierarchies and the dark secrets of guests and staff at a resort, unravelling over the course of a week-long holiday. The Guardian described it as "one of the most relevant and entertaining shows of the year".

The first season was set in Hawaii – and filmed on location at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, while the second was set in Sicily.

"With the shows phenomenal success, travel agents can harness its popularity to sell packages by drawing connections between the destinations and their starring roles on TV," says Connecting Travel editorial director Sarah Hedley Hymers. "Creating itineraries around such shows is akin to having free marketing via the very expensive medium of television."

As well as Cefalù, the nine-day walking tour includes Gangi, the medieval town of Geraci Siculo, Madonie Natural Park and Castelbuono.
