World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2023 to be held in Spain

Spain will welcome vaccinated tourists from 7 June

Gourmands, media and culinary professionals from around the globe will descend on Valencia in June

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 awards will be hosted in the city of Valencia in Spain in June 2023.

Earlier this year, the world’s most renowned chefs, restaurateurs and culinary stars gathered in London for the 2022 edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, at Old Billingsgate market, marking the 20th year of the awards.

Being held in the Spanish city of Valencia for the first time, the annual gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, media and culinary icons will comprise an extensive event programme hosted throughout the city culminating in the awards ceremony when The World’s Best Restaurants 2023 ranking will be revealed.

Already a popular destination with travellers seeking to immerse themselves in Spanish culture, Valencia is famed for its festivals, culture, sport and gastronomy.

Commenting on the news, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants director of content William Drew said: “We are thrilled to announce Valencia as the location of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 awards ceremony this June, in collaboration with our host destination partner, Visit Valencia and other Tourism Valencian institutions.

"Following the 20th anniversary of the awards in 2022, we were reminded once again of our aim to celebrate great restaurants and great chefs, but more than that, to unite the global hospitality community and bring people together through food. We cannot wait to gather this incredible community in June in Valencia, a city that both loves and values its food culture.”

Highlights of the programme in Valencia include the thought-leadership forum #50BestTalks; a 50 Best Signature Sessions series of collaborative dining events open to the public; a Chefs’ Feast showcasing the finest produce and cooking from the Spanish region and, of course, the awards ceremony itself.

The exact date of the awards ceremony will be confirmed in the coming months along with the announcement of several special awards designed to honour the achievements of both individuals and establishments.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 event held in London in July saw Denmark’s Geranium named The World’s Best Restaurant. Geranium will now join the Best of the Best list of former number one restaurants, and therefore will not be eligible to appear in the ranking for 2023.

Just two Middle East restaurants appeared on the extended 2022 ranking from 51 to 100, Orfali Bros Bistro at 87 and Tresind Studio at 57. The region's culinary leaders hope to crack the top 50 in 2023, with restaurants such as Ossiano at Atlantis, The Palm and Hoseki at Bulgari Dubai in the UAE, and Fusions by Tala in Bahrain also establishing themselves as key contenders.
