UAE begins to ease Covid-related restrictions from today

Social and sporting events can now operate at full capacity

Starting from today (15 February 2022), the UAE will ease Covid-19 related capacity and social distancing restrictions.

The decision comes as a result of the decline in cases in the country since 22 January 2022 when they reached 3,000 per day. Since then, the daily cases have been on the decline with daily cases on 13 February 2022 at 1,266.

The official spokesperson of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA), announced that maximum capacity is now permitted for social events such as weddings and funerals. However, the authority clarified that each emirate would be able to decide on the percentage for operating capacity for each social event.

The Media Regulatory Office of the Ministry of Culture and Youth also announced that cinemas in the UAE are now permitted to begin operating at maximum capacity. The same applies to sports facilities. Football stadiums can operate at 100% while maintaining the Al Hosn app’s Green Pass protocol. Under the new guidelines, all visitors must have a Green Pass on their Al Hosn app or a negative PCR test result within 96 hours to enter a stadium.

The NCEMA emphasised that residents should still wear masks, maintain social distance and santitise for their own safety.
