UAE’s Jebel Hafeet crowned world’s third most photogenic road trip

The results came via Instagram with 4,840 pictures taken per mile

The UAE has made it onto a list of the world’s most beautiful road trips with Abu Dhabi’s Jebel Hafeet trail claiming third place.

The peak is the UAE’s highest point at 1240m and offers breathtaking views across Abu Dhabi’s desert and Oman.

According to Instagram data, some 4,840 pictures are taken per mile here, while the Pentagon Motor Group calculated nearly seven million hashtag postings related to the Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road.

Connecting Travel editorial director Sarah Hedley Hymers paid homage to Abu Dhabi’s celebrated road trip route as a guest author of the recently released ‘Unforgettable Journeys: Slow Down and See the World‘ by DK Eyewitness. Listen to DK Eyewitness podcast about the book, featuring a guest appearance from Sarah, reading the Abu Dhabi extract.

The stunning mountain is on the outskirts of the city of Al Ain. A well as its cinematic hairpin road, points of interest include ancient tombs, wildlife and the Green Mubazzarah hot springs.

Impressively, Jebel Hafeet managed to beat the likes of Blue Ridge Parkway and Route 66 in the USA, Chapman’s Peak Drive in South Africa and Hai Van Pass in Vietnam.

The top two positions were awarded to the Great Ocean Road in Australia and Big Sur in California, respectively. The Great Ocean had 8,418 and Big Sur had 5,226 snaps taken per mile.
