Avalon Alegria will feature 200-square-feet Panorama Suites across two decks

Avalon Waterways plans to launch a new-build vessel on the Douro, the highest-flow river of the Iberian Peninsula, in 2024.

All Avalon Alegria cabins will offer views of the river and surrounding landscape.

The 102-passenger vessel will have 14 Deluxe Staterooms and 37 Panorama Suites in total, with a swimming pool on the Sky Deck.

Alegria will operate a new eight-day round-trip cruise from Porto, featuring the line’s ‘Classic’, ‘Discovery’ and ‘Active’ experiences.

Ports of call include Porto Antigo, Pinhão and Barca d’Alva, all in Portugal, and prices for the sailing departing 6 November 2024 start from US$2,995.

Avalon Waterways sales and marketing director Janet Parton said: “We’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to add Portugal to our robust portfolio and that day has finally arrived. Inviting our guests to sail the Douro for the first time, we’re bringing the Suite Ships of Avalon to south-west Europe and we couldn’t be more excited.”
