HX confirms MS Maud will return in April 2024

Expedition cruise ship suffered damage in storm last year

HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) has confirmed MS Maud will make a comeback in April 2024 after undergoing repairs for weather damage.

The purpose-built expedition ship, which suffered damage at the end of last year, will return to service for a trip round the British Isles, before heading to the Arctic and then Antarctica for further itineraries.

The British trip in mid-April will have Scottish weather presenter Carol Kirkwood on board to deliver talks and take part in Q&A sessions during the sailing from Douglas to Dover.

In July, MS Maud will head to the Arctic for sailings taking in Greenland and Iceland. The ship previously made history in Iceland when it became the first cruise ship to connect to shore power in the country.

In October 2023, the ship will move to Antarctica for a series of new expeditions, including the 17-day Chilean Patagonia and Antarctica expedition.

MS Maud will also sail 23-day and 24-day voyages offering guests the chance to see South America, the Falkland Islands and South Georgia in one trip.

Guests who were originally booked on MS Maud from 3 February to 16 March 2024 are being offered the chance to experience the same Northern Lights itinerary on MS Spitsbergen subject to availability.

Alternatively, guests can book onto another sailing departing between now and April 2024. This includes select Norway sailings with sister brand Hurtigruten. There is also the option to receive a future cruise voucher to book a new expedition at a later date or a full refund.

In December last year, MS Maud lost power during a storm in the North Sea. A “rogue wave” shattered windows on the bridge, causing the ship to lose its ability to navigate.
