Viking's new Nile ship ready for September sailing

Viking Amun will sail 82 passengers on Egypt's iconic river

Viking has floated out its latest ship for the Nile, Viking Amun. The ceremony for the construction milestone, marking the first time the ship touched water, was held at Massara shipyard in Cairo.

Scheduled to sail from September 2025, the 82-passenger vessel is now at a nearby outfitting dock for the final phase of construction and interior build.

Amun is an identical sister ship to Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek and Viking Hathor.

The new ship will join the growing Nile fleet operating the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Viking plans to add five new ships in Egypt in the next two years, taking the fleet to 12 vessels.

Torstein Hagen, Viking chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are very proud of our growing fleet in Egypt, which we consider to be by far the most elegant vessels on the Nile.

“Egypt is one of the world’s most captivating destinations, and we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to this extraordinary region in the coming years.”
