Guests can immerse themselves in the creative world of Picasso with the new ‘Luxury Retreat: A Palatial Stay Inspired by Picasso’. The two-night stay includes a spa session, "artful dining" and a city tour that shines a light on the artist’s formative years and creative philosophy.

The guided tour of Malaga, Picasso’s birthplace, starts with a visit to the Picasso Museum, with more than 230 paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphic works and ceramics.

Other notable stops include Plaza de la Merced, where Picasso’s childhood home still stands; the church of Santiago where the great artist was baptised, and Malaga City Council, which houses the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation.

Back at the resort the package concludes with a massage at Anantara Spa and a private dinner where every dish is inspired by the artist.

The celebrated Spanish painter also left a large legacy in France, the country that gave him artistic freedom and recognition.

In recognition of this, the new Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel has launched the ‘Picasso-Inspired Path – Celebrating 50 Years of Picasso Legacy’ package, offering individually priced guided tours, a hands-on screen-printing workshop and an absinthe tasting. The liquor was popular with artists and writers in France in the early 20th century.

The experience begins at the Romanesque chapel in Vallauris, a small town close to Nice, which is home to Picasso’s largest art piece, War and Peace, which spans more than 100 square metres and covers the vaults of the chapel.

Afterwards, guests will travel on to The Musée Picasso, formerly the Château Grimaldi, at Antibes, built upon the foundations of the ancient Greek town of Antipolis and housing more than 245 works by Picasso from different periods of his life and work.

Here, guests will have the chance to try their hand at screen printing on Picasso’s original equipment under the guidance of Dominique Prévost, President of Safranier Workshop art school (pictured) and an expert in monoprint and engraving. Additional charges apply.

The ‘Picasso-Inspired Path – Celebrating 50 Years of Picasso Legacy’ experiences are available from Tuesday to Sunday. No end date or room rate was given. The pricing listed by the hotel group is as follows:

  • 45-minute Picasso Museum and Vallauris Chapel tour: US$50 per group of up to 5 people
  • Monoprint on historic press (45-minute session): US$90 per person
  • 90-minute city tour, including absinthe tasting in a speakeasy and a visit to Antibes Picasso Museum: US$330 for two
