Sun Siyam Iru Veli’s General Manager, Masdhooq Saeed, has been awarded Best General Manager – Hospitality in Maldives at the World GM Awards 2025, becoming the first Maldivian to hold the title.
An annual event, the World GM Awards recognise general managers for leadership, operational performance and guest satisfaction, with winners selected by a panel of hospitality professionals.
Saeed’s hospitality career spans more than two decades, beginning as a receptionist at the front office in 2001 before progressing through reservations, villa hosting and eventually into management roles. He joined Sun Siyam Iru Veli as General Manager in 2023, where he has since overseen significant developments at the all-inclusive property.
In 2024, the resort outperformed expectations, reporting an 8% revenue increase above target and record occupancy levels of 90% in early 2025. The guest experience has also been a focus, with Saeed implementing new operational strategies and bolstering the resort’s reputation within the region’s competitive hospitality sector.

Commenting on the award, Sun Siyam CEO Deepak Booneady said Saeed’s achievement was a "proud moment for all of us".
He added: “What sets him apart is not only his results, but his heart. He leads with empathy, empowers his team and reminds us that true hospitality is about people first. We are incredibly proud to have him represent Sun Siyam and the Maldives on the global stage.”
The award follows a series of achievements for the group. Sun Siyam Resorts and its founder, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, recently received nine accolades at the Global Peace Hospitality Summit & Awards 2025 in Dubai. Sun Siyam Iru Veli was also named Maldives’ Leading All-Inclusive Luxury Resort.
Now in its 35th year, Sun Siyam Resorts operates five private island resorts in the Maldives and a boutique property in Sri Lanka. With a focus on community development and nurturing local talent, the group recently introduced a new apprenticeship programme to equip young Maldivians with practical career skills in hospitality.
