The retreat comprises 50 villas, two restaurants and a Spa by Clarins
Opening its doors this month, The Residence Douz marks Cenizaro Hotels & Resorts’ first desert resort and the brand’s second property in Tunisia.
Surrounded by dunes and palm trees, the retreat comprises 50 villas, two restaurants and a Spa by Clarins, all set within 14 hectares of desert landscape.
Referencing local design and aesthetics, villas and communal areas incorporate artwork from emerging Tunisian painters and sculptors, hand-woven carpets and private terraces.
With a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to explore, guests are encouraged to venture outside the resort by jeep, camel or quad bike.
Guest ambassadors are on hand to arrange excursions, from day trips to the village of Matmata, famed for its troglodyte houses, which once played the home of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, to luxury camping experiences in Tembaine.
Another must-visit site is Tamerza, an abandoned village that overlooks a mountainscape, complete with a towering waterfall and canyon where guests can wander around during a full-day excursion. It includes a tour of a former Berber fortress, the fortified village of Ksar Beni Alssa and a visit to the mountains of Toujane.
The Residence Douz follows in the footsteps of The Residence Tunis, which opened in 1996 and remains a firm favourite among luxury travellers visiting the north of the country.
As part of the resort’s opening offer, guests who book four nights or more will receive a 10% discount; for stays five nights or more, there's a complimentary dinner, and for stays of seven nights or more the hotel will arrange complimentary airport transfers from Djerba or Tozeur Airport.
In addition, the first 50 bookings will receive a complimentary hammam or body scrub treatment, or a one-hour camel ride in the desert.
