Development will include a 20-acre beach club
MSC Group’s cruise division is set to develop a new private island and a separate beach club in the Bahamas.
Sandy Cay, located next to the line’s existing private destination Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, is due to open in 2028. The island is designed as a more intimate extension of Ocean Cay, offering a more secluded guest experience.
Meanwhile, CTL Maritime, the company’s infrastructure arm, will develop the MSC Beach Club at the Grand Lucayan complex in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. The 20-acre development will be a purpose-built destination for the exclusive use of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys passengers.

Construction is expected to start on 12 April 2026, subject to environmental and regulatory approvals.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “The MSC Beach Club forms part of the company’s broader destination strategy, which also includes the expansion of Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and the development of Freeport Harbour cruise port, that will be available to all cruise lines.”
Last year, MSC Cruises announced a series of upgrades to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, scheduled for completion by late 2027.
