FlightRadar24 tracked 137,225 flights on 13 July

FlightRadar24 has reported a record number of daily commercial flights on 13 July 2023, with 137,225 planes taking to the skies. The number marks a new record since the website began tracking flights in 2006.

The record was broken for a second time in the same month after reaching 134,396 commercial flights just a week earlier on 6 July 2023.

The online platform, which tracks global air traffic in real time, reported: "Another record day for commercial flights. Yesterday we tracked 137,225 commercial flights, surpassing last Thursday’s total of 134,396."

According to new figures released by The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the aviation sector is close to reaching a full recovery with the growth in air travel demand continuing.

Total air traffic in May (measured in revenue passenger kilometres or RPKs) rose by 39% compared to May of last year and globally, traffic is now at 96% of May 2019 levels.

IATA director general Willie Walsh said: “We saw more good news in May. Planes were full, with the average load factors reaching 82%. Domestic markets reported growth on pre-pandemic levels. And, heading into the busy northern summer travel season, international demand reached 91% of pre-pandemic levels.”
